Internet Safety week.
Internet Safety Week
Internet Safety Week began in the College this week with the marking of ‘Safer Internet Day’ on Tuesday 6th February. This is a global event celebrated in more than 180 countries worldwide. It aims to promote online safety for children and young people. During Tutorial time this week and in some SPHE classes, students were given tips and learned more about how to protect themselves when they are online.
Many parents and guardians also have concerns and possible questions about the online world that many young people engage in. As part of Internet Safety Week, the Wellbeing Team would like to share a link to an excellent presentation made available by webwise.ie.
In it, Dr. Colman Noctor (Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytical Psychotherapist;) discusses the opportunities and risks for teens online, offers practical advice to support parents and answers some frequently asked questions.
The TikTok Safety team also provide a short explainer on how TikTok works and some key safety features.
We would also like to let you know that webwise.ie provides an overview of free resources and supports for parents in this whole area.
