Ciarán Donoghue’s Legacy Lives On – 2026 Recipient of St. Nathy’s History Award is Adam Lavin
Ciarán Donoghue, a past pupil of St. Nathy’s College (Class of 2012), sadly passed away in January 2014. Ciarán lived with Friedreich’s Ataxia, a rare and progressive genetic disorder affecting the nervous system and heart, bringing significant challenges to mobility and coordination.
Despite these difficulties, Ciarán faced life with dignity, courage, and determination. A passionate history student, he was known for his strong work ethic and thoughtful approach to learning. He left a lasting impression on all who knew and taught him. To many, he will always be remembered as the No. 1 Liverpool supporter!
The annual Leaving Certificate History “Student of the Year” award is presented in Ciarán’s memory.
This year’s recipient, Adam Lavin, was honoured at the recent Leaving Certificate Graduation Night. It was a privilege to have his teacher, Mr. Curran, speak about such an exceptional student while presenting the award.
Adam stood out not only for his academic excellence but also for his outstanding character, marked by respect, impeccable manners, and a consistent determination to give his best. Over the past five years, he demonstrated that history is far more than learning dates—it requires curiosity, critical thinking, and insight. His contributions in class were thoughtful, mature, and perceptive, reflecting a deep engagement with the subject.
His Research Study Report on Catherine Howard was particularly impressive, showing originality, attention to detail, and the analytical ability of a true historian. Adam consistently exceeded expectations, working independently and meeting deadlines with dedication.
His enthusiasm extended beyond the classroom, as shown through his independent research and strong sense of responsibility. Even when given opportunities to opt out, Adam remained fully committed to his studies.
Through his consistency, diligence, and love of learning, Adam is a truly deserving recipient of this award. Congratulations, Adam!
