First Years and their Mentors
For our new First Year students, moving from primary to secondary school can feel like stepping into a much bigger world. New subjects, new teachers, different routines, and a larger school. To help ease this important transition, our school’s mentoring programme has become an invaluable support, providing guidance, reassurance, and friendship to our First years.
Recently, our first-year students enjoyed spending time with their mentors. This allowed them to spend time with their older peers who have volunteered to guide them through their first year of secondary school.
Mentors play a vital role in helping our new students settle in. They understand first-hand what it feels like to walk into a new school and face the challenges of finding classrooms, making friends, or learning to manage homework. Because they have been through the same experience not so long ago.
The transition from primary to post-primary school is not only about academics but also about well-being. Young students can sometimes feel anxious in those first weeks as they adjust to new surroundings. Having mentors by their side provides reassurance that they are not alone and that there is always someone they can turn to for help or guidance. The importance of this cannot be overstated. Feeling supported and understood is central to a student’s confidence, happiness, and ability to thrive.
We are deeply grateful to our mentors for the time and energy they dedicate to supporting our youngest students. Their generosity, patience, and guidance have made all the difference in helping our new First years settle happily into school life.
