5th Year LCVP Trip to Freudenberg Medical 27/02/25

5th Year LCVP Trip to Freudenberg Medical

On the 27th of February last, the 5th-year cohort of LCVP students went on an educational trip to Freudenberg Medical in Carrick-on-Shannon. The day began early as we left our tutor classes with anticipation, eager to see what lay ahead. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff, who made us feel right at home. We were introduced to Barry Regan, the Vice President and General Manager, who provided an insightful overview of the medical instruments they produce, as well as the life-saving procedures these devices are used for and what these complex processes entail.

We also had the opportunity to meet Luke Taheny, a former St. Nathy’s student and now a Senior Design Engineer at Freudenberg. Luke shared valuable insights into his role and explained the various pathways into this dynamic industry, giving us a glimpse of potential future careers.

Next, we met Karolina Cygan, the Manufacturing Manager, who guided us through a fascinating tour of Freudenberg Medical’s facilities. We explored all three buildings, with a fourth currently under construction. Throughout the tour, we observed the rigorous standards of cleanliness and safety upheld by the staff, who were seen working in full protective gear — gloves, glasses, shoe covers, hairnets, gowns, and no jewellery, all to ensure zero contamination and maintain the highest level of hygiene.

Freudenberg Medical is a highly successful company, employing over 900 people, with the majority working in manufacturing. Their innovative, life-saving products touch the lives of over 200,000 patients annually.

After the tour, we headed to the local retail park for a well-earned lunch, before enjoying a trip to the cinema to watch September 5th.

A massive thank you to Freudenberg Medical for hosting us — it was an unforgettable day, full of learning and new experiences that we will remember for years to come.

A very sincere Thank you to all of our LCVP teachers for taking us there.
