Christmas Magic in the Making!
Last week, our very talented and hardworking Transition Year (TY) students embraced the festive spirit by making beautiful handmade Christmas wreaths. A big thank you to Amy Fox-Lunt, Caisigh Woods, Ivy O’Connor, Chloe Casey-Lavin, Tom Creaton, Cormac Duffy, and Tori Duffy for giving so generously of their time.
Working with care and enthusiasm, the students transformed an array of natural materials into stunning decorations that will brighten homes, front doors and graves across Ballaghaderreen.
Each wreath featured holly, ivy, red berries, and evergreen leaves—thoughtfully selected and arranged with creativity and precision. Traditionally, the circular shape of a wreath symbolises God’s strength, eternal life, and unending love, making these creations even more special.
Sustainability was at the heart of the project. The students began by weaving sturdy bases from sally rods, sourced from the school’s own hedges and trees. Layers of greenery—holly, ivy, and fern—were then added, followed by charming finishing touches such as pinecones, conifers, twigs, dried orange and apple slices, berry sprigs, and festive bells and bows. Equipped with secateurs and wire cutters, the group showed incredible teamwork and attention to every minute detail. The results speak for themselves! A big “Thank You” to mary Moylett who brought the holly all the way from Foxford!
In a beautiful gesture of remembrance, the students also created wreaths to adorn the Bishops’ graves at the Cathedral, highlighting the true spirit of Christmas: love, giving, and community.
