Woven into Memory: A Special Presentation to St. Nathy’s College
A beautiful presentation was made to St. Nathy’s College recently with the donation of a framed copy of Woven into Memory, a tapestry commissioned by Jacqueline Née Creaven d’Towey in memory of her relative, Fr Francis Canavan, and six fellow Columban missionary priests who were killed in Korea in 1950.
One of those commemorated, Fr Jack O’Brien, attended St. Nathy’s in the 1930s. A poem by Fr Kevin O’Rourke provided the inspiration for tapestry artist Frances Crowe, who created the original work, which now hangs in the Korean War Memorial Museum in Seoul, South Korea.
The poem has since been translated into Irish by Orlaith Towey, a past pupil of St. Nathy’s. Jacqueline’s two sons, Eli and Ryan, also attended St. Nathy’s, creating a special connection between this remarkable work and the College.
