Win for St. Nathy’s First year Soccer Team today.
On a very cold day in Castlebar, St. Nathy’s college took on St. Joseph’s College in the First year soccer competition.
Early on in the game two very well taken goals were finished off by Maeve Murray in the opening twenty minutes of the game. After this period of control, St. Nathy’s were under considerable pressure due to a relentless St. Joseph’s side of which this pressure became a little too much, as they conceded a goal just before half time!
Not to let the concession knock them, St. Nathy’s came out swinging in the second half, narrowly missing two chances at another goal. After another period of St. Nathy’s possession, St. Joseph’s regained control and hit the crossbar and the post, the latter thanks to a great save by Ella Hunt.
Then, on a swift break St. Nathy’s won a corner and scored thanks to a great delivery by Leah Cogan which was finished by Megan O Gara.
The last few minutes were very nervy as the St. Joseph’s side did not give up and scored with five minutes to go…….
However, St. Nathy’s held on with a crucial 3-2 win to top their group. The girls play a Galway team in their Connacht Quarter Final.
