Under 14 Girls Match
On Wednesday the 6th of November, our under 14 girls took on Castlerea in their 3rd outing of their league. Both sides played well considering the wet and windy conditions.
St. Nathy’s opened the game with a goal and a point in the first 5 minutes with a goal from Megan McCormack. Castlerea responded with a point within seconds. Shannon Doherty and Shannon Dowd held the half back line clearing every ball and this statement was further supported when Shannon Dowd made a crisp pass into Meave Cox who expertly fired it into the back of the net. Castlerea came back into the game just before half time, scoring a goal and a point.
The score at the short whistle was: Castlerea 1-2 vs. St Nathy’s 6-2.
Castlerea were the stronger side at the start of the 2nd half, with both Sara Dowling and Emma O’Conner having to intercept in the attacks. St Nathy’s found their footing again with good passes into the forwards which were put away nicely. Shannon Doherty made an outstanding catch mid-air and her efforts resulted in a point from Louise Regan. St Nathy’s goalie, Serena McDermott was called into action again when pressure intensified by Castlerea’s half and corner forwards. St Nathy’s then went on a scoring spree with a total of 4-6 coming from girls including Shauna Goulden, Orla O’Dowd and Claire Sampey. Before the full time whistle, Castlerea added 2 more points to the score board.
The full time score was Castlerea 1-4 vs. St Nathy’s 10-8.
