U19 Basketball Update
The U19 St. Nathy’s boy’s team played a home league game against Gortnor Abbey on Tuesday. The starting team was Gordon Nolan, Shairoze Akram, Darragh Dunne, Emmett O’Brien and Shane Mulligan. Scores in the first quarter came from Darragh Dunne (6 points), Shane Mulligan (4 points) and Gordon Nolan (5 points), which includes a 3 pointer. Gortnor Abbey scored eight points in the first quarter. St. Nathy’s seemed to be on top with a score of 15-8
In the second quarter, Gortnor Abbey began to fight back scoring 14 points in total. St.Nathy’s scorers were Darragh Dunne with 5 points including 3 points, and Emmett O’Brien scored two free shots. The quarter finished level at 22-22. St. Nathy’s came back in the third quarter with 4 points from Gordon Nolan, 2 from Shairoze Akram and another 2 from Darragh Dunne. Gortnor Abbey received 7 points including a 3 pointer from Martin McAndrew who played well throughout the game. The third quarter finished St. Nathys 34, Gortnor Abbey 28.
It was a very tense fourth quarter but unfortunately for St. Nathy’s, Gortnor Abbey began to take the head for the first time. Shane Mulligan scored 2 points for St. Nathy’s, Ryan Tansey scored another 2 from free shots and Gordon Nolan scored another 2 free shots. Gortnor Abbey got a huge score of 17 points in the last quarter which was enough for them to win the game.
