TY Tidy Up

‘TY Students at St. Nathy’s College are gearing up for Spring’

Transition Year (TY) students at St. Nathy’s College once again rolled up their sleeves as they continued with their environmentally friendly tidy-up. With all hands-on deck this week. This project is not just about tidying up; it’s about making a real difference by promoting continuous recycling.

A key area for the TY this week was the recycling of old cardboard and newspapers collected over the past few weeks. (A sincere ‘Thank You’ from Ms. Cawley’s Green School Committee for all the donations, Remember the 3 Rs, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle!). The students have been working diligently to sort and prepare these materials for repurposing, ensuring that nothing goes to waste. These recycled items will be used in various ways, from making mulch for the schools’ flower boxes and composting bins, showing how simple materials can be given a new lease of life.

Preparation is the key to success and their plan is to enrich the soil for the schools’ flower beds and vegetable gardens/beds, where they will soon plant even more seeds. The addition of organic matter and recycled materials will help to create fertile ground for the spring growing season.

Students are clearing out any remaining winter crops, cleaning the tunnel, and organising tools. Once prepared, it will once again house a new array of plants, allowing the students to grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers that will benefit the whole school community.
