TY Class of ’24/25’s inaugural trip to Causey Farm
After a brief return to the classroom TYs had their first trip of the year on Monday September 2nd with a visit to ‘Causey Farm’ in Co. Meath where the spirit of Friendship and Bonding was evident throughout the day.
On arrival at the farm students were immediately immersed in the Farm’s vibrant atmosphere, they were given a tour of the farm and got to meet some of the animals. Next up was a trip to the kitchen, where all the students rolled up their sleeves and got a chance to make traditional brown bread. This was a hands-on activity that encouraged collaboration, teamwork and patience.
While waiting for the bread to bake, TYs got to travel in style, in a tractor and trailer, to the nearby bog. While some of our students are familiar with visiting the bog during the summer to save turf this was quite a different experience. There was some trepidation when we met another group returning looking a little worse for wear and rather mucky. After a few instructions our TYs embraced the opportunity and had a go at ‘bog jumping’ and from what the photos show, they had plenty of fun! The students emerged covered head to toe in mud, rolling around and laughing, creating bonds that were stronger than ever.
By the time we returned to the farm and got cleaned up, the aroma of freshly baked bread permeated through the air, adding to the warm and welcoming environment that was ‘Causey Farm.’ We collected our bread and returned home. The guides for the day were very complementary about the behavior of the group. Their positive attitude was noted by the farm staff, who said the students were well-behaved and a credit to themselves and their school.
Hopefully, this is the first successful outing of many for our TY 24/25 cohort. Well done all.
