TY Students gear up for the Stage with Ill-legally Blonde!

TY Students Gear Up for the Stage with Ill-Legally Blonde

Transition Year (TY) students are setting the stage for another spectacular performance with their upcoming musical, Ill-legally Blonde. Following last year’s unforgettable Mama Mia, Papa Mia!—a three-night sold-out extravaganza that left audiences roaring with laughter at tanned torsos and stage antics—the pressure is on. But if the buzz around rehearsals is anything to go by, this year’s TYs are ready to rise to the challenge and deliver a show to remember.

The excitement is palpable as rehearsals kick into high gear. From the intricate stage design to the precision in choreography, these students are pouring heart and soul into their musical. The stage itself is shaping up to be a work of art, crafted with such meticulous attention to detail that it could rival displays in Broadway! This ambitious project is all homemade by the creative and dedicated TY crew.

Behind the scenes, Director Mr. Peter McLoughlin is leading the charge. His sharp direction ensures every scene sparkles with humor and energy. Meanwhile, the musical aspect of the production is in excellent hands. Our Music Director Ms. Stack has been fine-tuning her choir to perfection, coaxing harmonies that promise to leave audiences mesmerised and spellbound. Not a note will escape her finely tuned ear.

This year we welcome Ms. Emma Coleman, the creative choreographer, who is hard at work ensuring every dancer hits their mark and does not miss a beat. Rehearsals have been lively, with the dancers’ moves becoming as sharp as their wit—a perfect match for the musical’s cheeky humor. The TY boys certainly do a very cheeky dance, which will make you roar with laughter, but that is all we are allowed to say for nowđŸ€đŸ€đŸ€.

The cast are rehearsing hard and are already bringing characters to life with their flair and charisma. Building on last year’s success is no small feat, but this group of TYs is not to be underestimated. The camaraderie and determination of the cast and crew shine through every rehearsal, every scene, and every song. The story of Ill-Legally Blonde promises wit, charm, and a touch of outrageous fun, offering something for everyone.

With March fast approaching, the countdown is on for what promises to be another unforgettable production. Mark your calendars and prepare to laugh, cheer, and maybe even dance in your seat. The TYs are ready to prove they can meet—and exceed—the high bar set by their predecessors.

Do not miss Ill-legally Blonde, a hilarious and heartwarming musical that will leave you grinning from ear to ear. Tickets will go on sale soon, so be sure to secure yours before they are gone. After all, if last year’s Mama Mia, Papa Mia! was any indication, this is one show you will not want to miss!

Anti-bullying Week

Antibullying week ran in St Nathy’s College from the 18th to the 22nd of November. The theme of the week was “Choose Respect”There were lots of activities running throughout the week. The day commenced with a thought for the day which was read out by students over the intercom. TY students compiled an antibullying presentation and delivered it to all of the Junior classes. They distributed wristbands and stickers to empathise the theme of the week which was ‘Choose Respect’Our junior SPHE classes focused on Antibullying over the course of the week and worked together in developing a class contract. The contract was centered around the theme of respect and how they interact with each other in class. Once completed the students signed the contact so as to take ownership of it and their responsibility in making the classroom environment a positive place for all.A presentation was given at all of the Year Group Assemblies by Ms A Beirne, the Guidance Counsellor on the effects of bullying and on how we can all play our part in putting an end to bullying.A focus group was held with the student council to discuss the issue of bullying and brain storm ideas on developing solutions. One issue raised was around reporting so following on from this, two worry boxes were installed, each of these are located outside the Guidance Counsellors offices in A and C Block. While we had a school wide focus on Antibullying for this week it is important that the Antibullying message is not forgotten and that there is a lasting reminder of our commitment to work to ensure that our school is safe place for all.  Some of our art students designed and created an Antibullying wall. Central to the wall is a pledge that students from 1st year up to LC signed up to by placing their handprint on the wall. Many thanks to Layla and Lily for their artistic skills in creating this beautiful mural. So as to have visual reminders throughout the school a poster competition was held to get students to use their artistic talents to create unique pieces of Art that communicate the Antibullying message. There were lots of fantastic entries which made the judging all the more difficult. The winning entries were Brooke Coleman in 1st place with a poster that had a very powerful message “Be the hands that help, not the hands that hurt”. James Kilroy & Sophie Hennessy received joint 2nd prize for their entries. These posters will be copied and placed around the school and will also feature in this year’s Yearbook. Thanks to everyone who played a part in Antibullying week.

‘A Conversation with Our MEP 2024’

LCA1 and LCA2 Students Join 'A Conversation with Your MEP 2024'

LCA1 and LCA2 students recently had the exciting opportunity to participate in 'A Conversation with Your MEP 2024', a Communicating Europe event supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade. The event featured Maria Walsh, Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the Midlands-North-West region, who shared her inspiring journey into politics and provided valuable insights into the workings of the European Union.

Maria began her talk by reflecting on her early life in both Ireland and the United States. She shared how her diverse experiences shaped her decision to enter politics, culminating in her successful campaign for the European Parliament in 2019. Maria spoke candidly about the challenges and motivations that led her to pursue a career in public service, highlighting how her personal experiences shaped her commitment to representing her constituents in the EU.

The students were then given a deeper understanding of Maria’s daily work in the European Parliament. She explained the various committees she is involved in, which focus on key issues such as environmental policy, social rights, and economic development. This insight gave the students a real sense of the impact that MEPs have on shaping European policy and the role of the EU in everyday life.

One of the most engaging parts of the session was the interactive Q&A, where students had the chance to ask Maria questions about topics that matter most to them. Issues such as climate change, youth opportunities, and the future of Europe sparked thoughtful discussions, allowing the students to connect directly with their MEP and gain a deeper understanding of her work.

The event also highlighted the many career opportunities available within the European Union. Maria shared valuable information about the different career paths students could pursue in areas such as policy-making, international relations, and EU communications. This gave the students plenty of food for thought about potential future careers.

To conclude the session, a fun and educational Kahoot quiz tested the students on the key points they had learned throughout the talk. The quiz was a lively way to reinforce the topics discussed and ensure the students left with a solid understanding of European politics.

The event was an enriching experience that inspired students to think critically about the role of the EU and their own potential futures within it.
