Blood Donations

Give Blood, Save Lives!

Please consider giving blood at St. Nathy’s College,  on the 6th of November 2025, from 15:50 to 20:00. Why Should We Give Blood?
  1. Saves Lives – Blood donations are crucial for patients undergoing surgeries, cancer treatments, childbirth complications, and accident victims. One donation can save multiple lives.
  2. Helps Patients with Medical Conditions – People with conditions like anemia, hemophilia, and severe infections rely on blood transfusions to survive.
  3. Supports Emergency Situations – Hospitals need a constant supply of blood for emergencies. Natural disasters, accidents, and surgeries can create sudden demand.
  4. Encourages Community Support – Donating blood creates unity and care within communities, ensuring everyone has access to life-saving treatment.
  5. Health Benefits for Donors – Regular blood donation can improve heart health, reduce harmful iron levels, and promote the production of new blood cells.
Participating in this blood drive is a simple yet powerful way to make a difference. #EveryOneCounts

TY History Trip Dublin: EPIC and Croke Park Stadium Tour

On Wednesday 22nd October, Mr Brennan and Ms Scally brought our Transition Year students to Dublin.
Whilst it was an early departure at 6.30am, students were ready to head off for the day. After a quick pit-stop at Enfield on the way up for some much needed refreshments and food, we headed towards our first destination of the EPIC Irish Emigration Museum near the Dublin Docklands.
The whole experience was thoroughly enjoyable and interactive. Students were given their own passports for the different stages/rooms that were in the museum. Each passport had to be stamped just like millions of Irish people before them had to do when leaving their homeland in search for a better life in the UK or the United States. There were 20 rooms in total at the museum that ranged from Irish culture, to icons, to Irish Sport around the world as well as our legacy in other countries. One of the favourite rooms for the students, and teachers, was the mock-up Irish bar where a much needed rest was taken listening to traditional Irish music in the background! The whole experience was immersive, creative and interactive, as well as educational.
Next stop was Croke Park. After getting group pictures under the watchful eye of Michael Cusack, our tour of Croke Park began. Groups were split into two and guided through the history of the place, the dressing rooms, the warm up areas, the tunnels under the seats where the buses would arrive and informative videos from past players. Students were then led out within touching distance of the hollowed ground! They got a chance to experience the vast, pristine and impressive stadium and how the grounds are maintained regularly. A chance to lift the Liam McCarthy was also another highlight before being taken up to the heights of the Hogan stand. The Tour guides for each explained the history and significance along the way and were so helpful throughout the day. It was an incredible experience that everyone enjoyed. Additionally, we were lucky to spot two medals from St. Nathy's in the Croke Park Museum - I am sure they won't be the last ones!
The final stop was to The Liffey Valley Shopping Centre for some food and shopping!  Back on the buses and after some great song choices (everything from Nicki Minaj to KP Demon Hunters to Frank Sinatra 'I Did it My Way') and singing on the way down, we arrived back home at 6.30pm just under 12hrs after we departed that morning!
The students behaved impeccably throughout the day. Their conduct and manners to all those involved was exceptional and they did themselves and St. Nathy's College proud.
Thanks must also be given to our patient bus driver, Vinny,  from O' Hara coaches who was amazing throughout the day, managing the traffic and busing us to and fro to different venues around Dublin city and beyond. Thank you very much.
A fantastic and busy day was had by all.

Well done to our victorious U20 soccer team

Well done to our U20 soccer team who were victorious against Boyle. A competitive first half saw the score 0-0 at half time. However, the second half saw two goals scored by Tori Duffy and captain Grace McDermott who led by example throughout the match. Her tremendous effort and leadership on the pitch awarded her player of the match. The game closed out at 2-1 after continued pressure from a strong Boyle side. Well done ladies!

Maths Week

Last week we celebrated Maths Week in St. Nathy’s College, by putting our students’ problem-solving skills to the test. Each class took part in a special game of “The 1% Club” during Maths classes, where the questions started off easy but got trickier as the rounds went on. Well done to everyone who took part, and special congratulations to the students who answered all 11 questions correctly and officially joined “The 1% Club.”
Throughout the week, there were also maths puzzles announced over the intercom. Congratulations to the classes who cracked the clues the quickest and were rewarded with sweets:
The excitement and participation throughout the week proved that maths can be both challenging and great fun.

St. Nathy’s Open Evening 2025

St. Nathy’s College Open Evening

Last Thursday, St. Nathy’s College was filled with excitement as we welcomed prospective students and their families to our annual Open Evening. It was a wonderful opportunity for future pupils to experience life at St. Nathy’s and we were delighted with the warm response from our feeder schools and local community.

Principal Fr. Henry, joined by Deputy Principals Ms. Gildea and Ms. Garvey, extended a very warm welcome to visitors. They spoke about this important step in each student’s education, recognising the mixture of excitement and nerves that comes with moving to secondary school.

We are deeply grateful to all staff and students whose hard work made the evening such a success. Many current pupils served as guides, leading tours in several languages, sharing their experiences, and helping families feel at home. Visitors commented on the friendly atmosphere and the enthusiasm that filled the halls.

Every department contributed to the evening’s success, reflecting the wide range of learning opportunities available at St. Nathy’s.

The Career Guidance team offered support to families navigating the transition to secondary school, while our EAL and SEN teachers provided reassurance and advice to those new to the Irish education system. Both departments emphasised inclusion and helping every learner reach their potential.

The French Department brought a touch of France to Ballaghaderreen with colourful displays, maps, and student projects. Teachers spoke about language learning, culture, and theirupcoming trip abroad. The Irish Department celebrated our national language through engaging displays, student work, and discussions on the importance of keeping Irish culture alive.

The Geography and History departments offered insights into past and present, with maps, models, research projects, and fieldwork studies on display. Teachers spoke about how both subjects build understanding of people, places, and global issues.

11C (Ms McCann's room) was alive with activity! The English Department engaged students and parents with a synopsis of the Junior Cycle English course and some word-based activities.  Present pupils aimed to show incoming first years that English can be engaging and fun! Students had the opportunity to sketch cartoon characters, compete in a fun version of scrabble and create their own Mad Libs. There were some beautiful displays around the room, including, student poetry, favourite book titles, film reviews and student newspapers. "The Venice Times" was a big hit! Thanks to all of our present pupils who created the displays.

The Maths Department organised interactive puzzles for the sixth class students and their parents. All visitors to 5A enjoyed problem solving tasks, while also discussing the first year curriculum. The evening aimed to show how the department helps every student build confidence in their mathematical abilities, preparing them for future academic success.

Hands-on learning was also on display in Wood Technology, Construction Studies, and DCG, where visitors admired carefully crafted woodwork, technical drawings, and digital design projects. Teachers explained how these subjects develop creativity, precision, and problem-solving skills. In the Engineering and IT rooms, students demonstrated cutting-edge tools and equipment, sparking great interest in technology and innovation.

In Home Economics, the aroma of fresh baking drew many visitors, who admired students’ culinary creations while learning about nutrition, food science, and practical life skills. Nearby, Business and LCVP students shared their enthusiasm for entrepreneurship and planning future ventures.

The Art Department, led by Mr. O’Connell, impressed visitors with colourful displays of paintings, sculptures, and textiles. Teachers and students discussed how art allows learners to express creativity and develop technical ability.

The Religious Education room offered a calm, reflective space featuring projects on world religions, ethics, and community initiatives. Teachers and students spoke about how RE promotes empathy, open-mindedness, and moral awareness.

The Music Department brought great energy to C Block, where senior students performed alongside talented first years in a lively seisiún. The mix of singing and instrumental pieces highlighted the vibrancy and teamwork that define the school’s music community.

The Science Department fascinated visitors with live experiments in biology, chemistry, and physics, while Agricultural Science and Horticulture displayed the practical side of sustainability through crop and plant studies. Teachers discussed how these subjects build curiosity and critical thinking.

Sport is paramount in St. Nathy’s, and the Physical Education team introduced families to the wide range of opportunities—from football and basketball to athletics and team events—emphasising the importance of health and participation for all students.

The Open Evening truly reflected what makes St. Nathy’s College special: dedicated teachers, enthusiastic students, and a community that values learning, creativity, and care. We look forward to welcoming our new First Years for their Taster Day next Friday, and again in September, confident they will thrive in the supportive and vibrant environment that defines our school.

A very big and sincere “Thank You” to everyone who helped make the evening such a success.

Geography Field Trip

6th Year Geography Field Trip – Carrowhubbock beside Enniscrone Beach

On Monday last, our 6th-year Leaving Cert Geography students embarked on a memorable field trip to Carrowhubbock beside Enniscrone Beach in County Sligo. This hands-on fieldwork is a vital part of their project work for the upcoming Leaving Cert exam, providing students with the opportunity to apply classroom learning to real-world geography.

Located on the stunning Atlantic coast, Carrowhubbock offered the perfect setting for a comprehensive study of coastal environments. The students investigated coastal processes of erosion and coastal features such as the wave-cut platform and the cliff while taking detailed measurements and observations for their projects.

Guided by their teachers Mr Curley and Ms Brunker students also gained valuable insights into the delicate balance between environmental conservation and development in coastal regions. The trip was both educational and enjoyable, giving students a chance to work together, engage with their subject in a practical setting, and deepen their understanding of coastal geography.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising this field trip, and to the students for their enthusiasm.

Victory for Our U17 Soccer Team as Youngest player on the squad shines through with a hat trick!

Well done to our under 17 soccer team who shot to victory today in Boyle for the start of their championship campaign. A lively first half saw St. Nathy’s take the lead with a superb finish from Mila Clancy who has now scored near 30 goals in her 4 years in the school. A remarkable achievement for such a young player.
Boyle equalised with a well taken penalty and went in 1-1 at the break. However, St. Nathy’s reclaimed all control of the half when Eloise McDonnell, the youngest player of the entire squad capped off a fantastic break by tapping it into the Boyle net. She continued that form scoring the next and secured her hat trick within 17 minutes of being on the pitch. Mila Clancy followed up her earlier finish with another while Saerlaith Dillon rammed home a screamer of a goal from a long distance. To close out the game after a remarkable endurance of pressure from Boyle, Ruby McDonagh finished out the scoring from tight range to end the game 7-1.
St. Nathy’s soccer is back to its winning ways and face Carrick on Friday at 10:30am in Gurteen. Come down to support if you can. All are welcome!
