U16 Girls Basketball Match
On the 15th of this month the u16 St. Nathy’s Girls basketball team travelled to Glenamaddy for a league game. If Nathy’s won they had a very good chance of reaching the All-Ireland play-offs.
In the first quarter, Meaveen Greene, Lisa Flanagan, Tara Phillips, Rebecca Maxwell and Megan McCormack lined out. It started well for Nathys as Meaveen scored a lay-up and then a free throw. But then Glenamaddy got two scores in a row. But before the quarter ended Megan and Tara both scored to make it 7-4 to Nathy’s after the first quarter.
The second quarter started with Glenamaddy taking the lead but Nathy’s brought it back to lead at half time in the game by 13 points to 10.
In the third quarter Nathy’s really got going as they scored an unanswered 17 points. But Glenamaddy were able to score two more baskets before the quarter ended. It was looking good for Nathy’s as they led by 30-14 going into the last quarter.
The final quarter started and Nathy’s were not going to let Glenamaddy come back. They made many substitutions and were still able to finish strong, winning by a final score of 38-18.
Well done to all involved and the very best of luck to Francis and the team in the All-Ireland play-offs.
