U16 and U19 Boys’ Basketball.
St. Nathy’s travelled to close neighbours Castlerea yesterday for U16 and U19 Boys’ Basketball.
The U16 boys were superb throughout, with some excellent play from all those involved and stellar performances from Declan Duffy, Sean Buckley and Oran Frain. Their offence and defence were strong today, the boys did not panic and established a lead early on which they never looked like losing. A terrific performance and even better score line winning 42-24. Congratulations to Mr. Igoe, Mr. Freeman and the team who go through to the Semi-Finals. This date for this will be announced later.
Next up were the U19 Boys who faced very tough opposition as some of the Castlerea players made it to the All Ireland Final last year. Despite that, St. Nathy’s took a lead in the first and second quarters. It was an incredibly tight and fast paced game and the team did the College proud. It was all to play for in the final quarter but unfortunately, Castlerea came out on top, establishing a lead that was not possible for St. Nathy’s to come back from with a few minutes left on the clock. A heartbreaking finish losing 39-26 but nevertheless we can hold our heads high after an incredible season and some outstanding performances, most notably from Conor Walsh. We have some promising 5th Year and Transition Year students who will be vital to this team going forward in the next season. Hard luck to the team, Mr. Brennan and Mr. Freeman; and Congratulations to Castlerea on a fantastic match.
