U-14 Girls Match

On the 10th of October, the under 14 St. Nathy’s College girls football team took to the pitch against a strong Strokestown team. St. Nathy’s started strong with Shannon Dowd winning the throw-in. After Shannon Doherty’s effort, keeping Strokestown out, her pass to Megan McCormack was put over the bar. A follow-on point by Megan widened the margin. Eleven minutes in, a penalty was given to Strokestown and a goal ensued from the spot kick but not without Serena McDermott getting her hand on the ball, unfortunately it slipped from her grasp. The half time score was Strokestown 0-1, St Nathy’s 1-6.

The only change to the Nathy’s side was Zoe Kelly who came on for Maeve Cox. After a point from Strokestown, Claire Sampey won the kickout and laid it off to Orla O’Dowd who had a shot on goal which was saved by the Strokestown goalie, Shauna McDermott. Fifteen minutes in after a good performance from both sides, Strokestown’s corner forward was going for goal but Sara Dowling got her hand in to block it and it fell short into the goalie’s hand. Shauna Goulden won the kick out and after carrying it 40 yards up the field, she made a crisp pass into Orla O’Dowd who flicked it into Megan McCormack and she put it in the back of the net which secured Nathy’s lead. The referee, John Niland blew the full time whistle with the score being Strokestown 5 – 04 to St. Nathy’s 6 – 09.

Well done to our team and their management and the very best of luck in future games.
