TY Students Take Part in Poetry Slam Workshop
Our Transition Year students recently enjoyed an engaging and energetic Poetry Slam workshop delivered by poet and educator Stephen Murray.
Stephen, the founder of Inspireland, is widely recognised for his dynamic approach to creative writing. An award‑winning poet with two acclaimed collections published by Salmon Poetry, he has worked with tens of thousands of young people across the country, helping them to discover their own creative voices. His workshops have been featured across national media platforms, reflecting his reputation as one of Ireland’s leading creative facilitators for young people.
Throughout the workshop, Stephen guided students through a lively and thought‑provoking exploration of language. Students looked at how words can shape our understanding of the world, and how they can motivate, challenge, comfort, or even influence social attitudes.
As the workshop progressed, students experimented with rhythm, imagery, and storytelling. Many were surprised at how quickly ideas began to flow once they stepped into the creative space Stephen created.
By the end of the session, students had produced pieces that were thoughtful, imaginative, and deeply personal. The variety of themes and styles reflected the individuality of each young writer and the confidence they developed as the day went on.
A huge well done to all our TY students for embracing the challenge with such enthusiasm and openness.
Our sincere thanks to Stephen Murray for once again bringing such energy and expertise to our school. His guidance continues to inspire our students and a create a love of language that extends far beyond the classroom.
