St. Nathy’s celebrate the beginning of new School year

A Joyful Beginning to the New School Year at St. Nathy’s Cathedral

On Wednesday last, St. Nathy’s College gathered in our Cathedral to celebrate the beginning of our new school year. The special Mass, officiated by Bishop Doran, Our Principal Fr. Henry and PP Fr. Kivlehan, marked the first time the entire school body came together in the new academic year. It was particularly special as it was the first time our new First Year students gathered with us for what will be their new 5/6-year journey through secondary school.

The Mass began with the air of new beginnings. The significance of the occasion was heightened by the carefully selected readings, which encouraged reflection and hope for the year ahead. These thought-provoking passages invited both students and staff to contemplate their goals, aspirations, and positivity, to create a positive, productive and inclusive Teaching and Learning environment for all.

Fr. Henry and Fr. Kivlehan, both familiar faces to the school community, offered words of wisdom and encouragement, reminding everyone of the importance of kindness, effort, and togetherness in the journey ahead. Bishop Doran, spoke eloquently about the opportunities that a new school year brings—a fresh start for academic growth, personal development, and building strong relationships with one another. His words resonated with the entire congregation, who listened intently.

One of the highlights of the Mass was the beautiful music provided by Ms. Stack’s newly formed choir. The choir, a talented and harmonious group of students, performed wonderfully, bringing a sense of peace and joy to the mass. They were ably supported by Ms. Gordon and Ms. Kielty. The music was uplifting, with moving renditions of “Christ be Our Light” and a memorable finale of “May the Road Rise to Meet You,” which left a lasting impression on all in attendance.

As the Mass ended, rapturous applause filled the cathedral, and there was an air of ‘Feel Good’ and ‘Solidarity’ amongst our new St. Nathy’s family. The entire service was a beautiful start to what we all hope will be a successful, inclusive, productive, and positive new school year.
