Poetry Slam Workshops for TY students

On Wednesday and Thursday last TY students took part in ‘Poetry Slam’ workshops facilitated by Stephen Murray.

Stephen Murray is an award winning poet and the founder of ‘Inspireland’. He has published two collections of poetry with Salmon Poetry to widespread critical acclaim. He is regarded as Ireland’s leading poetry workshop provider for young people and has delivered workshops to over 50,000 young people in Ireland. His work has featured on Nationwide, RTE TwoTube, TV3, Arena, BBC 2, The Irish Times, the Independent and Hot Press.

The poetry slam workshops in St. Nathy’s were are a journey into the power of language, and the use of creative expression as a tool of wellbeing and self discovery. Students discussed the power of language to empower, influence, degrade, inspire, seduce, radicalise, marginalise and unite. They also learned how language can articulate their experience in life and help them bear witness to their thoughts.

Some very creative, original and pensive poetry was produced.  Well done to all our students who took part so enthusiastically and to Stephen Murray for his inspiring and thought provoking workshops.
