A very engaging day was had by all of our 5th Year students who attended the AXA Road Safety Event in Castlebar today. The hard hitting road show aims to educates teens about the terrible consequences of road carnage and encourage young drivers, and those about to commence their driving career, to adopt a more responsible attitude in terms of their own driving behaviour.

Climate Ambassadors

Congratulations to Benjamin Battle, LC, and Emma Grady, TY, who have recently been appointed as Climate Ambassadors. This is a programme run by An Taisce, where climate officers are given the opportunity and platform to do something positive within their community, to adapt to and mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change.

They will attend a full day training course in Galway next Saturday, which will cover the causes and effects of climate change as well as the solutions. They will also attend further training and workshops throughout the year. We wish them luck and look forward to the implementation of their action plans.

Also pictured some members of the Green School's Committee, 2018/2019.

St. Nathy’s stage “The Playboy of the Western World”

The hall at St. Nathy’s College was the venue for what was to be a great night’s entertainment on Friday, January 19th. The TY students, directed by Ms. McCann and Ms. Staunton, staged “The Playboy of the Western World” by J.M.Synge, a story of love, loss, poverty and tragedy with a healthy helping of humour thrown in. There was also entertainment provided by the school’s very gifted dancers, singers and musicians. The night was a great success with the evening ending in rapturous applause, a deserved response to an excellent performance.

Visit from Deirdre Kelleghan

[divider style="hr-dotted"]

On 16th November the School received a visit from Deirdre Kelleghan, an Astronomer who has worked in observatories all over the world. She taught the first year students and some fourth years about the Cassini Space Probe and its mission to Saturn.

After describing the mission and the probe using models and videos she got the students to draw images from the probe using Pastels. It was a wonderful educational experience that allowed the students to combine a love of Science and Art.
