Day 2 -News from our TY Students in Amsterdam

TY students had a busy second day on tour. We started with a visit to the The Rijksmuseum. This is the largest museum in the Netherlands and contains over 800 years of Dutch art and history. We were given a guided tour and got  to see some of the most famous works of Rembrandt, including the Night Watch. We learned about the history of the painting, his use of shadows and where he has hidden his own portrait in the painting. We saw many other notable paintings by Dutch artists, and also a few of Van Goughs famous works. After leaving the museum we got to spend some time in the beautiful garden attached to it before heading for some retail therapy in the Mall of the Netherlands .

From there we made our way to Dunreil Water park, where everyone was glad of a chance to cool off. We had dinner in the opulent surroundings of the Grande Cafe restaurant. Local rivalrys were not forgotten though and we managed to watch the U20 Connacht final on a few phones! The Roscommon contingent weren’t too happy with the result and the Green and Red of Mayo was sung in celebration before returning to the hotel!
