Connacht Champions !!

In an absolutely scintillating game, St. Nathy’s emerged victorious in the Connacht final of first year girls soccer. In their first season, the girls have ended the season undefeated in all aspects of competition.

Within the first five minutes of play, Zoe McDonagh entered the box with eyes for goal and was brought down unceremoniously with a penalty given seconds after. With another goal to her tally, Mila Clancy slotted away a fantastic penalty to put us 1-0 up.

The team endured a lot of pressure for 15 minutes, just conceding prior to half time to enter the break at 1-1.

Shortly after the resumption of play, Nathy’s won a free kick which was placed expertly in the most phenomenal of fashions by Aoibhinn Conway into the top right corner.

Unfortunately, about seven minutes after a blind sided shot, Headford equalised for a second time.

However in the last ten minutes, Nathy’s took hold and in a moment of magic Zoe McDonagh executed a perfect bicycle kick to ensure the lead.

In the final moments Meabh Lavin and Siofra Haran secured victory as they worked tirelessly to avoid a 1 on 1 opportunity for Headford.

The girls have been a credit to the school in every manner, worked constantly, trained during the best and worst of weather but have given everything to this campaign and are most certainly well deserving Connacht champions today! Nathy’s Abú. Mr Creaton and Mr Nealon so proud of the squad in every manner!
