Chess Tournament
On Tuesday March 3rd a team of students from St.Nathy’s College headed to the Ardilaun Hotel in Galway City to take part in the Connaught Cup. This prestigious tournament hasn’t been held since 2019 due to the Covid pandemic. For all of the students taking part it was their first experience of this kind of tournament.
The first team comprising Joey Geever, Lorcan Sampey, Gerard Cummins, Flynn Thompson, Henry Black and Ryan Geever performed admirably in the main tournament, winning more than half of their matches with Ryan winning an individual award for his great performance.
In the secondary Novice Cup all of our students- Aaron Collins, Aaron Dooney, Henry Lowry, Felipe Bezzerra, Niamh Grady, Roisin Morris, Daniel Anderson and Aaron O’Toole- won at least two games each.
Well done to all students involved and to their Teacher, Ms Brunker on organising and preparing the students for the competition with the help of Mr Brady.
For any student interested in joining the Chess Club to play or to learn can find out more every Wednesday lunchtime in room 6B.
Players of all levels are welcome!
