Champion School of Sanctuary
St. Nathy’s College officially became a Champion School of Sanctuary on Friday 22 September. St. Nathy’s was among three schools who were designated a School of Sanctuary at a ceremony in Athlone. All schools were represented by students, who spoke of the Sanctuary journey in their schools. Many students read poems, some in their home languages of Dari, Ukrainian, Arabic and Portuguese.
As well as inspiring words from TUS Vice President Frances O’ Connell, herself a stalwart advocate of Sanctuary, we were delighted to be joined by Mohammad Zaid, a young Syrian man and a former student of St Nathy’s College and now studying at the University of Galway. He spoke of the amazing supports that he received in St. Nathy’s, the friendships he secured in the school and he described how the teachers in St. Nathy’s have helped him to achieve his dream thus far.
