Connaught cross country competition
St Nathy’s had a fantastic outing at the recent Connaught cross country competition held in Loughrea on February 22nd.
It was a credit to our school and athletes to have representatives in every category.
Minor girls -Lucia McDonell ran an intelligent well paced race, coming in 22nd place out of a field of 72.
Minor Boys-Darragh Molloy held his own in the top group of this race finishing in 21st place out of a field of 75.
Our junior girls showed great determination grit and resilience, in their 2500m course and as a team placed 9th with a very strong individual performance from Mila Clancy finishing 21st out of 72.
In the Junior boys category we had Daniel Anderson and James Puncheon. This was an extremely competitive race with 91 athletes and the boys ran very well, displaying individual performances to be very proud of.
Micaela Roddy ran an extremely strong race, finishing 16th in a field of 52. Micaela was just one place short of qualifying for all Ireland’s.
The Intermediate boys race was fast and intense, our boys team did very well placing 5th, with an outstanding run from Gordon Casey placing 16th out of 78, missing out on an all Ireland qualification by one place .
Last up was our senior boys- at this stage of the day the course was mucky and very slippy, this was made worse when heavy rain showers came pouring down on them mid course! The boys ran a gruesome 5000m and gave every ounce of energy they had to the race. The boys were placed second overall as a team and have now qualified for the all Ireland finals which will take place in Waterford on Saturday March 11th . We wish them the very best of luck, a great achievement to be very proud of!
