Off to the European Parliament!!

Sean O’Dowd, one of our TY students is on his way to Strasburg, France (once it is Covid compliant to do so that is.) Sean won the Graduate.ie competition by completing an online quiz each morning alongside his classmates. He was notified this week of his successful entry and that he had won 'The Financial Services & Pensions Ombudsman' sponsored prize. The competition aims to increase students’ civic, social & political awareness in a fun way.

Sean will be travelling with 23 other students from across Ireland in 2021, where they will, over the four-day trip, visit the European Parliament.

We wish Sean and his fellow competition winners a safe journey.

Famine Walk

Famine Walk

The National Famine Museum has recently launched the Famine Walk, a 136 km trail which follows the route of those who left Strokestown en route to what was hoped to be a better life, beginning at the Docks in Dublin.

The trail is punctuated with brass shoes and each participant is given a ticket and information regarding those who first made this journey.

Mr. O'Suilleabhan and Ms. Fergus completed the first leg of the journey with our TYs, the very first school group to take on the challenge, and it is hoped that the students will complete the whole trail before the end of their TY year.

Furry Friends Animal Sanctuary

TY students have been incredibly busy creating accessories and play runs for the animals at the 'Furry Friends' Animal Sanctuary.

Here we have items which include ferret runs and a scratching post for the cats. All items are created from up-cycled materials so they're looking after the environment too.

Mia and Ciara visited the sanctuary where, as part of their 'Gaisce' Journey, they helped out grooming the horses.
