Men’s Health Talk
Last Monday, Martin McHugh, a former Connacht Championship Medal winning Leitrim Goalkeeper, came into the school to speak about men’s health to all TY and 5th Year boys. Martin has an inspiring story as a two-time survivor of cancer. He overcame both testicular and prostate cancer and at 50 years old is still playing football.
Martin highlighted the importance of going to the doctor, on the first detection of anything appearing to be wrong. He gave the students good advice on how to recognise symptoms of these cancers and explain how they can be treated. At the end of the talk, Martin distributed information leaflets explaining the effects of testicular cancer as well as prostate cancer as it usually affects older men. It was a very informative talk and we are very grateful to Martin for giving his time to share his personal story.
