Mayo Mental Health
All the Leaving Certificate students in St.Nathy’s College attended an excellent presentation on mental health that was given in the College by the Mayo Mental Health Association on Thursday March 24th. Niall Dunne, Manager of the Mayo Mental Health Association and Padraig O Hora who is also a current Mayo Senior footballer spoke to our students about the importance of Resilience which is one of the key indicators of Wellbeing in our lives.
They gave practical advice to our students on topics such as how to achieve balance in our lives, the role that mindfulness can play in improving our mental health as well as the importance of developing and having positive relationships. They also gave terrific tips to both as to how we might deal with adversity and crisis points in our lives. Both Niall and Padraig also gave a general overview as to what mental health is and they also highlighted some of the risk and protective factors in relation to maintaining a mentally healthy lifestyle.
Our students thoroughly enjoyed this presentation and hopefully they will take many of the skills and tips that both Niall and Padraig gave them into their adult lives that will help them to enjoy good mental health.
