Girl’s Senior Match
On a cold and blustery morning in the month of January, in the Senior Girls Connacht Quarter Final match, St. Nathy’s senior girls played Colaiste Chum Ciaran, An Cheathru Rua, in the Connaught C.O.E, in Ballyhaunis. The match kicked off at 12:30 following a late arrival from Colaiste Chum Ciaran. Two minutes into the match St. Nathy’s started off the scoring, with Rebecca Finan, tipping the ball over the bar, shortly followed by a point from Colaiste Chum Ciaran. The rain poured down, but it didn’t affect the St. Nathy’s girls’ spirits as they scored three goals and two points in a short time.
After half time, as the game progressed, the St. Nathy’s girls produced an impressive number of scores with Katie Gallagher, Rebecca Finan and Naoise Wilson playing a blinder. The score added up to 9-8 to 1-2 to the St. Nathy’s girls. It seemed at this point that Colaiste Chum Ciaran were slowly giving up, but they continued to defend against any goal chance. They could not keep up with the Nathy’s girls who scored another goal and three points. Following an unfortunate own goal, scored by Colaiste Chum Ciaran the score was now 11-11 to 1-2. The losing team made a last dash effort to make a comeback, scoring a point, which now made the score 11-11 to 1-3.
In the final five minutes of the game, Nathy’s Brianna Gorman, Tara Phillips and Ciara Stephenson scored three further points. As Ciara Stephenson scored the final point of the game, the final whistle was blown.
Well done to St. Nathy’s Senior Girls team. We wish them and their coaches, Ms. Gordon and Mr. Carmody, further success in the future.
