Gaisce: The President’s Award
On Wednesday, Mary Yore visited St. Nathy’s College to talk to our TY class about Gaisce: The President’s Award. She outlined what Gaisce is and the three levels to the award programme – starting with Bronze and progressing on to Silver and then to Gold. The time required to complete the Bronze Award is 26 weeks and to attain a Gold award increases to 78 weeks. Mary explained how the programme challenges young people to set and pursue personal goals in four different areas of activity which include Community Involvement, Personal Skills, Physical Recreation and the Adventure Journey. The President’s Award is the most well-known Award in Ireland for young people aged 15 to 25. The TY class were inspired by Mary’s visit and by the number of last year’s TY students who completed their Gaisce journey. Our TY students are now looking forward to taking on this challenge themselves.
