Gaisce Bulbs for Bees

The St. Nathy’s TY and EAL classes planted bulbs this week. The bulbs are pollinator friendly and were provided by Gaisce to celebrate The All Ireland Pollinator Plan’s 35th Anniversary. To mark this occassion they sent bags of these bulbs to many youth groups and post-primary schools. We were delighted to receive the bulbs and to plant them with Ms Munnelly in the flower beds beside the school’s polytunnel. The bulbs were made up of species like Crocus and Grape Hyacinth, which are very good at providing for hungry pollinators. This is especially for Ireland’s vital bee population which is threatened by extinction in some areas. The TY and EAL groups were glad to be able to do this not only because the flowers will be a great addition to the garden come the spring but they will also help keep the local bee population thriving.
