College and Career Awareness Week

College & Career Awareness Week kicked off with great energy as first-year students submitted their creative entries for the “Dream Jobs” poster competition.

Throughout the school, doors were decorated with college crests and career sector images to spark curiosity and raise awareness. A dedicated careers noticeboard was also on display in the canteen, providing useful information for students.

Senior students engaged with recorded talks from Trinity Access students, exploring a wide range of courses across disciplines:

  • STEM: Engineering, Biomedical Science, Theoretical Physics
  • Health Sciences: Nursing, Dentistry, Pharmacy
  • Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences: Teaching, Languages, Archaeology, Political Science

On Wednesday, Ms. Edel Costello, Course Director for the BSc in Health and Safety at ATU Sligo, delivered an insightful session to 5th-year students. She was joined by Jack O’Grady, a graduate of the program and former St. Nathy’s student, who enjoyed reconnecting with his past teacher, Mr. P. Dolan.

Thursday brought a fun twist with the “Guess Who” competition, where students matched teachers to their previous careers.

On Friday, Linda Egan from the Technological University of the Shannon will introduce senior students to the Access Apprenticeship Course, outlining pathways and qualifications available through apprenticeships. Leaving Cert students will also attend an informative talk from the University of Limerick.

In addition to these events, classrooms buzzed with activities ranging from career research projects to open discussions between students and teachers about their own career journeys.

College & Career Awareness Week proved to be an inspiring and informative experience for all involved. Students gained valuable insights into diverse career paths and educational opportunities, helping them make more informed decisions about their futures. The enthusiasm and engagement throughout the week highlight the importance of continued initiatives like this—empowering students to dream big, explore options, and take confident steps toward their goals.
