‘We’ll need to be at our best to win’
This weekend, St Nathy’s College in Ballaghaderreen – which has such a proud GAA tradition – are bidding to reaching an All-Ireland football final.
Already Connacht champions, St Nathy’s take on Mount St Michael College, Rosscarbery in Limerick on Saturday.
Colm Maye, joint team manager of St Nathy’s, spoke to People Sport this week and admitted that they don’t know a lot about their semi-final opponents, Mount St Michael College, Rosscarbery.
“We saw a video of their Munster final win and they are an impressive side. They have some super players. Dylan O’Neill, who is on the Cork U-20 panel, is their main man but they have lots of good players.
Colm says that St Nathy’s have been working hard since the Connacht final.
“We certainly didn’t set the world on fire in the Connacht final but we took our chances when they came and we were very happy to get over the line. But in an All-Ireland semi-final there will be nothing soft so we will have to perform to our very best to win it.
“We don’t have any injuries and we are all looking forward to the challenge” he concluded.

Midfield battle vital as St Nathy’s eye place in final

Having won the Connacht title for the first time since 2018, St Nathy’s Ballaghaderreen continue their quest for All-Ireland glory when they face the Munster champions Rosscarbery this Saturday in Limerick.
St Nathy’s are backboned by several Roscommon players including inter-county minor stars Dean Casey and Patrick Gaynor. They will be hoping that they can follow in the footsteps of Roscommon CBS who won the All-Ireland B title in 2025.

Patrick Gaynor is an outstanding goalkeeper and will be hoping to lead from his position between the posts again in this semi-final. The full-back line of Harry Dooney, Liam Boyle and James Kilroy were very effective throughout the Connacht campaign and will hope to tie down the much-vaunted Rosscarbery full-forward line.
James Cassidy was one of the goal scorers in the Connacht final against St Joseph’s and he and Declan Duffy and Padraic Dowd form a very impressive half-back line.
In the middle of the field, Oran Frain (who scored a goal in the Connacht final) and the high-fielding Seanie Buckley will hope to give Nathy’s control and a platform for attacks.
James Puncheon, talisman Dean Casey and Aaron Duffy will most likely be the half-forward combination. Further up, Ryan O’Sullivan, who had a super match in the Connacht final, Michael McTeague and Conor Moriarty will be hoping to get the scores required for the team to emerge victorious.
In their provincial final, Rosscarbery defeated Abbey CBS of Tipperary by a single point with their star player, Dylan O’Neill scoring the winning point late in the match. It was their first provincial title in 30 years.
The team are coached by Mike Keohane who has been with the school for many years. They have players from three clubs – Carbery Rangers, St James, and Kilmacabea.
Mount St Michael is a mixed school of approximately 400 students, of which about half are boys. The co-manager is ex-Carbery Rangers player Enda Favier.
If St Nathy’s can gain control around the middle of the field and get Dean Casey, Ryan O’Sullivan and Michael McTeague on the ball, they can get the scores to reach the All-Ireland final.
