Aiming High – Basketball Success

It has been a busy few weeks for both our 1st and 2nd year teams.
Before midterm the 1st and 2nd Year Girls travelled to Castlebar to play St Josephs in their first league game. Our first years played very well but St Josephs proved too strong in the 3rd and 4th quarters. The girls never gave up and showed some great teamwork skills throughout the game.

The 2nd Year girls had a fantastic win against St Josephs. The game was very close throughout with St Nathys edging in front in the 2nd quarter. St Josephs had a very strong 4th quarter but Ava McGreal scored a basket right before the buzzer to send the game to extra time. St Nathys won 34-30 after 3 minutes of extra time. It was a brilliant game with both teams working extremely hard on offensive and defensive plays. Well done girls.

Tuesday 1st March
Both our 1st and 2nd year girls teams travelled to Gortnor Abbey to play our second group game. The first years worked hard on defensive but unfortunately, Gortnor Abbey came away with the win. Well done to our very dedicated group of 1st year girls who have done very well in their first ever season playing basketball. They are a talented group of players with plenty of potential in the years ahead.

Our 2nd year girls had a fantastic win over Gortnor Abbey, the game ended 54-6. It was a phenomenal team performance. Our top scorers were Ruth Brett who finished the game with 19 points and Hannah Moynihan who scored 12 points. Another superb defensive effort from Ava McGreal & Leah McHugh.
St Nathys now face Colaiste Bhaile Chlair in the semi final next Friday.
Best of luck to this fantastic group of girls.
