Ballaghaderreen have a long established badminton club. The coach at the moment Is Paul Lynch. One of the clubs star players is Adam McAllister.

Q: When did you start playing badminton?
Adam: I started playing in 2009.

Q: How often do you train and who are your coaches?
Adam: I usually train four days a week. Paul Lynch and Jonathan Dolan train me.

Q: Have you won any major competitions?
Adam: I won the Irish National Championships in doubles with Kyle McGhee (Derry). I also came runner up in the singles competition.

Q: How did you get onto the Irish Badminton team?
Adam: I went to the training sessions and got on well in tournaments.

Q: When was the competition in Spain with the Irish team and how did you get on?
Adam: It was last February. In the group stages, I bet a lad from Spain and another from Italy. Then I advanced onto the quarter finals where I was beaten by a lad from Portugal.

Q: Have you any upcoming competitions?
Adam: the Connacht Open this weekend (October 5th). In two week’s time I will play in the Munster Open.
