Meet regularly with and get to know well the first
year students assigned.

Give advice on how the school operates and what
is expected of a student in the school by way of conduct / academic
attainment etc., etc.

Assist first years determine what schoolbooks
they require.

Assist in the purchase of second hand books (if
required) or new books from the book shop if needed.
|
| |
Advise on study skills and on how to note and
organise homework for many new subjects and new teachers.

| |
Help students interpret their timetables and subject
choice options.

| |
Identify and help solve any difficulties a first
year may have in relation to any aspect of school life. Where
a problem exists that can not be resolved, the student’s Class
Tutor is informed.

Assist first years at break times to organise
sporting pursuits / pastimes.
|
| |
Help first years locate misplaced property e.g.
schoolbooks / P.E. gear.
|
| |
Encourage students to put their names on school
uniforms – especially jackets.
|
| |
Encourage students to report immediately any items
they may have lost.
|
| |
Advise first years about the use of lockers and
about the danger of leaving money / valuables unattended in schoolbags
/ jackets.
|
| |
Identify first years who are, or are likely to
become, either the victims or perpetrators of bullying and bring
this information to the attention of the relevant Class Tutor.

| |
Advise and helping first years prepare for internal
house exams at Halloween, Christmas, Easter and Summer.
